Position Summary:

The Director of Health and Wellness is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the retirement home, ensuring high-quality care for residents and providing leadership to all team members. This leadership position requires collaboration with various teams and departments to deliver exceptional services to both residents and their families.

Reports to:

Executive Director (ED), supported by Director of Retirement & Community Care (DRCC)

Assets and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a 3-year degree or 2-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Registered Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Senior Living
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Retirement Homes Act
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with residents, team members and family members
  • Proficient with computers in a variety of software

Responsibilities:

Include, but are not limited to:

Resident & Family Relations:

  • Serve as the lead point of contact for residents and their families, addressing concerns and fostering positive
    relationships.
  • Oversee the resident move-in process, ensuring a seamless transition for new residents.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Housing to manage and maintain the waitlist process effectively.
  • Manage monthly resident billing and ensure timely and accurate submissions to accounting.
  • Participate in care conferences as needed to ensure coordinated care for residents.
  • Lead resident satisfaction surveys and continuous quality improvement initiatives, utilizing feedback to
    improve services and operations.

Operational & Financial Management:

  • Lead the management of the departmental budget in collaboration with the DRCC and Executive Director,
    ensuring efficient financial operations.
  • Oversee dining room operations and meal service in collaboration with the Director of Hospitality.
  • Ensure adequate supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained to meet the needs of
    residents and staff (i.e. PPE).
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and policies by overseeing fire drills, safety protocols, and
    emergency code compliance.

Staff Leadership & Development:

  • Manage day-to-day clinical team scheduling, ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding and orientation of staff, ensuring all new employees are effectively integrated into the team.
  • Responsible for team member education, including orientation, annual training, and ongoing/on-the spot education.
  • Evaluate staff performance, assisting with probationary reviews and conducting annual performance appraisals.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings, preparing agendas, materials, meeting minutes and follow up on action items as needed.
  • Respond to concerns, complaints, and suggestions from staff, working with the team to resolve issues promptly and effectively.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee the completion of care plans in collaboration with the Retirement Coordinator to ensure all residents receive appropriate and tailored care.
  • Support on-call rotation and be available to respond to emergency situations as required
  • Collaborate with the DRCC to maintain consistency and high standards between the Retirement Homes.
  • Ensure completion of RHRA-required incident reports and lead investigations as necessary, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Shift Information:

This is a full-time leadership position that requires flexibility to oversee peak periods including evenings and weekends. The final compensation offered will vary based on a variety of factors, including a candidate’s experience, and skills. The salary can range from $66,000 – $80,000.

Employment is contingent on receipt of an acceptable current criminal reference check, which includes a vulnerable sector screen, proof of vaccination(s) against COVID-19, screening for tuberculosis, and two (2) supervisory references that are satisfactory to the Employer.

Ability to provide effective service in French (proficient in conversational French for activities of daily living) is considered an asset.
